Dr. Clair Oja is a certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Family Nurse Practitioner. Dr. Oja completed her doctorate focusing on mental health and the lack of access to mental health care. For the past thirteen years, she has treated a variety of mental health disorders in a family practice setting.
Dr. Oja is passionate about providing quality, compassionate, and comprehensive mental health services to pediatric and adult populations. Dr. Oja feels that one of the most important aspects of providing mental health care is focusing on rapport with the patient, as well as the family when indicated. Additionally, she makes sure to respect a patient’s cultural values. She follows evidence-based guidelines blended with a focus on nutrition, exercise, stress management, lifestyle modification, and relaxation techniques. As a PMHNP, Dr. Oja’s role is multifaceted, including educator, mental health advocate, and prescriber. Dr. Oja believes that many chronic health conditions result from untreated mental health disorders. Her goal is to consistently maximize each patient’s ability to reach their full potential—so they can live a meaningful and rewarding life.
Dr. Oja earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Syracuse University. Dr. Oja completed her Master of Science in Nursing Family Practice from Stonybrook University followed by a Doctor of Nursing at George Mason University. Dr. Oja later completed a post-graduate program in Psychiatric Mental Health from Regis College. She was awarded the overall excellence award from Stonybrook University.
In her free time, Dr. Oja enjoys spending time with her husband, children, and dogs. She also enjoys running, hiking, and reading recipes (although she collects more recipes than she cooks).
